Travel back to 1992 with your phone for a little nostalgic journey with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Classic

Description

Play as the blue superspeed hedgehog in Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Classic, experience the joy of rolling up and down and freeing your fellow friends from the control of Dr. Robotnik. Your mission in the game is to stop devious Dr. Robotnik from getting the Chaos Emeralds. Travel from zone to zone to thwart the evil doctor’s plans to control the world. 

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Classic looks the same as the Sega’s version in 1992, so if you have played it 20 years ago, you will notice that Sonic has not aged. The theme songs are also unchanged. When you hit the little robots, it still goes pop and you will see little animals popping out of the machines. 

When you start, scroll right to the last icon for Help and Options, where you can learn more about how to play in the instructions. The game will show you a synopsis of the story, as Sonic flies in his biplane “Tornado” and arrives at West Side Island. 

After reading the synopsis and instructions on how to play, you are ready to start the game. Start Game brings you to the story mode, but if you have completed the level, you can beat your own personal best in the Time Attack mode.  

Running With Sonic

Sonic can run forwards or turn backwards, and he can jump or spin. The left virtual joystick controls the direction, while tapping the right joystick for jump, hold the down direction and the right button to activate a spin dash. You do not have to keep your thumbs on the pad to move Sonic, as long as you are close enough, he will move in the direction you point. Your goal is to head to the other side, collecting rings and saving animals as you go. 

The score on the top is the total score you get per act, and the game times your movement from start to finish. The rings protect you from harm as well as giving you bonus points in the game. It is best to collect as many rings as you can. The top right corner is the live you have, you get 3 tries before it is game over for Sonic. 

Running the Course 

Throughout the course, you have many ways to reach the end. Sonic and jump up or move downwards, and each route will lead to the end. You can also backtrack if you think you do not like the road you are on. But it is hard to reach certain platforms in the game once Sonic falls down. 

Since he can move forwards and backwards, Sonic will slow down to a stop before heading into the other direction. If you are doing a spin dash, or you are speeding up to do a loop de loop, remember to hold the direction that Sonic is going. Slowing down means Sonic will lose the momentum he needs to rush forward.

Boss Fights

Every episode there are two acts, Act 1 usually is the halfway point. At the end of each act, Sonic will reach a goal plate. Rush past the sign and it will start to spin. There will be a battle in Act 2, where Dr. Robotnik appears with his Eggmobile and shoots things at Sonic. Hit the Eggmobile using spin dash attack until the machine explodes.

Versus Mode

You can play against another player in the 2P versus mode, where you can select preference and items before picking the character that you want to play. Then you can either create a match or join a room. 

Spin Your Way to the Finish Line

Using Sonic’s iconic spin dash attack, you can power through small robots and free the animal within. Along the way, there are bonus boxes that offer rings and invincibility. While Sonic will be safe against robots, iron balls and other weapons, you can still die if you fall into bottomless pits or get crushed by moving machines. 

Sonic can still drown if he cannot get air while underwater, he has to remember to pop air bubbles while underwater to get air. The music will become more urgent as a reminder for you to find a bubble to breathe in.
